If you have been to Ohloh.net a few minutes ago, you should have seen that ejabberd was the number one Open Source project of all time.
This screenshot is not a fake. We are very popular, but a slight manipulation in Ohloh.net can allow you to get a even better result
Can you guess what we did to get this result ![]()
What we have learned here is that:
- The popularity algorithm of Ohloh is simple. It is the number of incoming link to a website on Yahoo! We would be glad to help adding other interesting metrics in the calculation.
- The web site should moderate the sensitive informations. The URL of the project is one of them as it is used to calculate the popularity.
Yes, you have probably guessed that changing your project URL to http://www.google.com/ is enough to make you the most popular project on Ohloh.net.

A better way to compare is to see how much website link to the ejabberd website and how many link to the Openfire page.
Posted by open the fire to censorship on 04 May 2007 at 21:44Hello,
That’s what ohloh does. From their FAQ, they says they are using the number of link pointing to a page given by Yahoo!
Posted by Mickaël Rémond on 05 May 2007 at 07:58However, Ohloh currently removed the popularity calculation.
They are currently improving it.
hehe, yahoo in this situation makes life much better
