ejabberd passes the 120,000 download mark

Some people told us that this figure does not seems large.

A few comments:

First, ejabberd is included in many Linux distribution: http://www.process-one.net/en/ejabberd/counter/
This counter cannot count the installations made through those distribution channels. That’s why it is not intended for comparison with other projects, but to show the overall trend and demonstrate the rising interest in ejabberd.

Secondly, ejabberd is developed in Erlang. This large number of downloads make it one of the most popular Erlang app and actually helps Erlang spreading. Being an open source software, some people are downloading it for learning purpose. This is the same for other open source servers, but as Erlang as fewer developers than for example Java developers, you cannot expect to have as much download for learning purposes. That’s why direct comparisons are not possible nor relevant.

What’s ultimately matter is the number of actual users of the server in production.

As a conclusion, the download counter is mainly there to show the trend of rising interest on ejabberd.
