Resources for ejabberd modules developers

Posted by Jérôme Sautret on 22 Feb 2007 at 12:10
We have made available some resources useful to ejabberd modules developers.

We have written a documentation on modules development, covering core modules API, events/hooks mechanism, IQ handling and route table mechanisms. This documentation is available on our wiki and will be completed progressively. Don't hesitate to discuss about it directly on the associated Talk pages. You can also correct or update the documentation pages if you have some knowledge to do so.

We have also set up a forum for discussing issues related to ejabberd modules.

And we have a subversion repository dedicated to ejabberd modules, so, if you have developed some interesting modules, just ask us for commit rights. This way, your modules code will be reviewed and maintained by the community.

Why yet another separate forum? There already *is* an ejabberd forum dedicated to ejabberd module development: http://ejabberd.jabber.ru/forum/11

Advantage of the already existing forum:
* no need to subscribe yet another forum account, just use your Jabber ID
* more people are watching this forum, and thus you have a higher chance to get an answer to your question
* centralised with all other Jabber-related forums
* support in other languages like French, Spanish, Russian, Dutch, and German (more might be added in the future).
* based on Drupal, which is very popular and thus many people already know how to use the forum

So, if you have questions about ejabberd module development, I suggest you better go to http://ejabberd.jabber.ru/forum/11

Well, this not just about the forum. Actually, we’re trying to put a complete set of resources to help the modules developers. The forum is just one of them, with the subversion repository and the wiki, which is probably the most important part.

Yes, I understand. All created recources are great, except the forum; I do not see any advantage in having yet another forum about the same thing; IMO it looks more like a disadvantage as it creates friction in the community.
