It would be cool to have the option to not reply back with your own tweet that you had just barely tweeted using tweet.im.

Twitter is publishing your own tweet it in your friends timeline. At least you know it has been published.

Not sure if it is actually a good thing to silently ignore your own tweets.

I understand, although I do get response back with ‘OK’ indicating that my tweet went through.  I guess it’s just slightly annoying on my mobile phone when I message my tweet and then about a minute later my phone vibrates and it’s just my own tweet back again.

Lovin’ the service so far though, it’s already replaced the horrible twitter mobile app for my phone.

Thank you for the reply. I see your use case. We will think about a solution for that.

I have a feature request which shouldn’t be really hard to do, and alhough i’ve looked at this post on my first day as a user, this is something that only really bothered me after being a user for a few days.

When you get direct messages, they appear in a separate chat window on your client, so you can easily notice them. Could you do something similar for @replies ? And, of course, since some people probably don’t want this, give us the option to activate/deactivate this feature through a command.

My reason for asking for this is the following: i follow a lot of people, and although i’ve been cutting on the people i follow lately, sometimes when discussions heat up i still get a lot of tweets. In the most busy moments i’ll probably just give a quick look to the IM window. Today i decided to give a look at my replies page on twitter.com and i noticed i’ve been missing a lot of replies to my tweets because i just don’t notice them in the middle of the ocasional mess.

Back when i used twhirl, i would always notice when someone replied to me because the @replies would appear in a different color, but with tweet.im, i’m not even sure if a XMPP bot implementation allows you to send formatted messages, and even if it does, most people probably use tweet.im because of it’s simplicity, so they probably wouldn’t want colored messages. At least that’s what i think :)

I hope you consider doing something about this, and thanks for providing us with such a useful service so far.

Hello Tiago,

It could be done. The only thing that I am wondering is what will be the status of the reply if you post.
If you reply directly to a user it will be a direct message.
How would we separate them between replies and direct message when sending a message to the user ?

You could create an exception rule in that window. If i just write something, it will be sent as a direct message. If i preview my message with @username, it will be sent as a regular reply.

Yes, that’s possible. Using the prefix even in directed message could change the behaviour, yes.

I would appriciate if there was a possibility to get to profiles (probably on web) of people I dont follow.
The use case is when you get a message from someone you follow but there is @reply-to-some-you-dont-follow nowadays you dont have an option to view this fast and you have to type the url to your browser yourself… :(

The possible ideas that popped in my mind were:
1. add links at the end of the message (the title could by just one letter, like “R” or something)
2. do links like @someone

I think the second solution is better, because one message can include more @replies… :)

2. do links like @someone

If I understand well what you need, this is already implemented. You need a client that support XHTML-IM for link rendering.

What do you miss badly ?

I would really like an on/off switch. If directs & replies could have their own on/off switch, so much the better.

The original track feature would be also awesome.

Thanks!

We are working on both features :)

Thank you for this service.  It is so nice to interact with Twitter via IM again!  My only request is: Is it possible to pause receiving updates?  I love interacting with Twitter this way, but sometimes it’s overwhelming or inappropriate, such as when I’m at work and my iGoogle page is going nuts with updates.  FriendFeed has a similar function and allows for a pause.  It would be nice.  Thank you for all your hard work and keep it up!

I have some problems with encoding! In utf8 Cyrillic symbols have a length 2 bites, latin 1 bite,so the problem is that the bot does not post my cyrillic massages on twitter thinking that there are more than 140 symbols(if there more than 70).And how i know jabber is using UTF. So nothing that i will do to change encoding from my client side wouldn’t help.
I don’t know how. But russian developers solved this issue (http://mblogi.qip.ru).This service have official jabber support and when u type messages there with cyrillic symbols it have limit 140,  when you type latin it have same limit.
It would be great if your service have feature that allowed to post massages with cirillic symbols on twitter with normal length(140).Still thanks for great service!
