1. Automatic posting of messages to Twitter
If your IM client supports auto-reply feature, it could be triggered when the tweet.im messages you with a Twitter update. An automatic message would then be posted to your timeline.

2. Temporarily stop receiving tweet.im updates.
If your IM client supports blocking of a selected contact (like Adium does) you could block tweet.im from displaying Twitter updates without unsubscribing from the service or deleting the contact.
