When I try to send twit in Russian, twitter.tweet.im replies that it’s too long, even if it is obviously short enough to be twitted and can be easily posted thru web-interface. Example (I’m not sure if you guys will be able to read it, but it’s 63 symbols long):

[00:41:29] dir01: Качаю дамп русской википедии, завтра в институте попробую развернуть зеркало
[00:41:29] twitter.tweet.im:  [ERROR] Your message is longer than 140 characters. Your message has not been posted.

Well, this bug makes you awesome service absolutely useless. Please, make things working. Please! T_T

Another one suffering person… Jabber and twitter quite popular in ex-Soviet countries I guess a lot of people would like to use your service.
Bug actually shows only for big messages. Short one, like 30-50 characters goes without problems.

I beleive, the problem is in using of utf-8 for transferring messages (utf-8 uses 2 bytes (16 bits) for cyr letters). Try to resend your tweet w/o last word :-)
If i’m right, then the same problem must exist for chineese/korean/japan multibyte encodings.

Yes, I guess you’re right, but in this case amount of characters reduces from not so many anyway (140) to incredibly not enough - 70…
