Telecom & Communication

The messaging engine inside the communication products used by hundreds of millions.

Telcos and communication platforms do not have the luxury of "good enough." Their users expect always-on, always-fast messaging with zero interruptions. ProcessOne has been the invisible backbone behind some of the largest communication services in the world since the early days of XMPP.

From Portugal's biggest ISP to Orange's global OTT app, from Nokia's push platform to VoIP pioneers later acquired by Google.

When your product is communication, your messaging infrastructure is your product. There is no margin for instability, no room for latency, and no excuse for downtime. The telcos that got this right built on ejabberd. The ones that didn't are still looking for alternatives.

SAPO / Portugal Telecom: from daily outages to "the enterprise-class king."

SAPO, Portugal's largest ISP (owned by Portugal Telecom), had a large messaging community but their existing server caused daily outages. "Pedro Melo, technical consultant at SAPO, explains: "We had daily interruptions in service, which were costing us customers. We worked with the existing supplier for quite a long time, but it just got to the point when we couldn't put up with the costs and problems any longer."

ProcessOne helped SAPO migrate to ejabberd in less than two months. "ProcessOne was extremely helpful," says Melo. "The team provided us with good advice and support and always reacted quickly if we had any issues."

SAPO went from daily outages to rock-solid stability. Celso Martinho, CTO of SAPO: "Using open source software enables us to be innovative, flexible and reactive in a global market." And Pedro Melo's assessment is now famous in the ejabberd community: "ejabberd is the enterprise-class, large-scale deployment king."

Powering communication products at every scale.

Orange / Libon: smart messaging for a telecom giant

When Orange launched Libon 2.0, they chose ProcessOne to power its core messaging, push notifications, and cloud storage. The OTT app offers free calls, smart chat, and voicemail transcription in 95 countries. The launch was covered by TechCrunch and GigaOM, who wrote: "How Orange hopes to benefit from a future of free calls and messaging."

SIPphone / Gizmo5: VoIP meets ejabberd, then Google acquires

SIPphone built a VoIP service grounded in open standards: SIP for calls, XMPP for messaging. "Matthew Reilly, Software Engineer at SIPphone: "We believe that industry standards are the way forwards for this industry." ProcessOne set up their ejabberd infrastructure, and it performed beyond expectations for over three years. Later rebranded Gizmo5, the service was acquired by Google in 2009.

Rebtel: affordable VoIP for digital nomads

Rebtel is a Swedish tech company building communication products for tourists and international nomads: calling, messaging, and mobile money. ProcessOne set up and maintains the infrastructure behind Rebtel's instant messaging and VoIP services, delivering affordable and highly available communication to people who depend on it while living abroad.
